Where Tradition Meets Innovation
With our family's roots in distillation dating back to 1867, the company’s journey began as a small passion project on a farm in 1996. Josef Farthofer’s enthusiasm for distillation ignited a deep love for the craft, laying the foundation for the steadfast company it is today. With multiple locations, we remain committed to our origins while cultivating 40 hectares of organic farmland and embracing innovation.
What started as a small endeavour grew into a deep appreciation for every step of the production process. Each stage is carefully monitored and thoughtfully executed to ensure the highest quality. From the very beginning, our focus has been on working with organic materials—an approach that soon became our most defining characteristic.
Our commitment extends beyond crafting exceptional products; we strive to deliver a unique experience, combining tradition, expertise, and an uncompromising dedication to quality.
Production Process
From Field to Bottle – Crafting Excellence with Transparency
Every step of our production takes place in-house, utilizing state-of-the-art facilities to ensure the highest possible quality. From grain to glass, we maintain full control over the process, beginning with our own fields, where we cultivate the grain used in our spirits. Transparency is key for us here—each bottle can be traced back to the very field where its grain was grown.
After harvest, the grain undergoes germination, during which it is soaked to convert starch into sugar. To preserve this transformation, the grain is carefully dried before entering the malting process. Here, it is first bruised, then mixed with water and heated to transform any remaining starch into fermentable sugars.
Fermentation follows, with yeast added to convert sugar into alcohol. The resulting mash is then distilled in our cutting-edge stills, equipped with up to 60 plates—allowing for an unparalleled level of purity and refinement. This advanced setup enables us to craft not only exceptional whisky but also high-quality vodka.
Maturation is a crucial step in shaping the character of our spirits. The distillate is first brought to cask strength using pure granite water sourced from the Mühlviertel region before resting in hand-selected casks. Once matured, it is reduced to bottle strength with the same pristine granite water, then labelled and sealed with wax—signifying the care, heritage, and quality behind every bottle.
